You know, it’s sad, because I actually love Peter Capaldi. He’s a formidable actor, and I am excited to see how he handles the role.
But that doesn’t change the fact that for the twelfth time, a Doctor has been chosen, and he’s a white guy. Never mind the fact that regeneration should open itself up to infinite possibilities for casting (hello, The Corsair), and that a show whose protagonist has repeatedly spoken truth to power should really feature someone-not-a-white-dude as said protagonist because how fucking fantastic would that be! Jesus Christ! If you’re a fan of the show, do you really think the Doctor would be a big fan of white guy after white guy after white guy? Do you really think he’d be all about repeatedly allowing the dominant powers to go unchallenged? Within the context of the show, it is stupid, unimaginative, and hypocritical for the Doctor to always be a white guy. Yes, the show started in the 60s, but it’s 2013. Would it really be that fucking difficult to cast a POC or a woman in the role, you lazy, complacent dickheads?
Fucking no it wouldn’t. There are so many good choices for that role. There are countless massively talented POC and non-male actors out there, and it’s pathetic that the show runners have repeatedly missed the opportunity to have a Doctor who challenges white male supremacy. And I know we shouldn’t have expected any better because, let’s be real, Steven Moffat is a bigot with his head up his ass and no sense of pacing, but Jesus Christ, what a lazy choice. It doesn’t matter that Peter Capaldi is a brilliant actor. He is. That’s not the point. What matters is that Doctor Who is a show about standing up and fighting what’s wrong, and once again, the show itself has failed to do so.
